Cantor, musicologist, teacher and anthologist Gershon Ephros, whose name today is unfamiliar to many musicians, has left us treasures of religious and secular, vocal and instrumental, serious and light-hearted music. His compositions are dated between 1925 and 1977, with the bulk having been written in the latter part of Ephros’s life when he had more time to give to composing. His best known achievement is the massive six-volume Cantorial Anthology, which pulls together Cantorial music from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
